Bringing Awareness To Missing People
Poster creation and social media use to help bring missing people home.
600,000+ people go missing each year - 39% Female / 61% Male
16% are under the age of 18 at time of report (NAMUS, 2021).
What to do if a loved one is missing
Step 1
Check common places they may be such as:
At home
Work
With family
With friends
to determine if the loved one is missing.
Step 2
If unable to find immediately, file a police report. Provide the police with photos, physical description, and any known medications or important medical information.
Step 3
Have a missing persons flyer created. Use this flyer to post on social media and hang fliers at local stores, gas stations, and high traffic areas.
Step 4
Create a search party to search nearby areas. Police may be able to help by using k9s. Check if the case is able to qualify for an Amber or Silver alert. Or look into a privite investigator.
Safety
A beneficial resource to have if a family member goes missing is an ID kit. An ID kit would be kept in a secure place in the house and given to the police. This would provide the police with accurate information quickly.
An ID kit for each person in the household should include:
Full name (First, middle, last)
Date of Birth and age
Height & Weight
Gender
Ethnicity
Eye & Hair Color
Physical Characteristics (Birthmarks, Glasses, Tattoos, Piercings)
Current Address
Medications
Medical Necessities
Photo (Recent & in Color)
Emergency Contact
Fingerprints
DNA Sample (A Little bit of hair)
